Nov 20, 2025 | 12:03 PM

A three-month jail sentence has been handed to a man charged in a pair of incidents involving a knife and the assault of a transit driver in downtown Red Deer last year.

Red Deer resident Drake Edward Davidson, 19, was sentenced in Red Deer Court of Justice on Nov. 19, 2025. He was convicted on counts of causing a disturbance by screaming, resisting a peace officer, and assault causing bodily harm. Four other charges against him were withdrawn.

Davidson was given credit, however, of 19 days in custody, meaning he will stay behind bars until the expiration of his sentence on Jan. 30, 2026. He was also given two years of probation, and a firearm prohibition during his sentencing on Wednesday.

Davidson was previously sentenced to 45 days in prison, 18 months of probation, and a firearms prohibition after pleading guilty in Red Deer Court of Justice on June 2, 2025, to one count of assault with a weapon.

He was also given 109 days of pre-trial credit, however, meaning his first sentence was satisfied by time already served. Two other counts he was facing were withdrawn.

Davidson was originally charged with assault with a weapon, assault, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in regards to the May 21, 2024, incident.

According to Red Deer RCMP, at 11:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of a downtown pedestrian being chased by a man with a knife along 58 Street. No injuries were reported, however.

Then, at 12:41 p.m., in a separate incident, Red Deer RCMP received a report that a bus driver was assaulted at Sorensen Station.

According to RCMP and victim statements, the suspect was acting belligerent and was asked to leave the bus. He allegedly became agitated and tried to attack the driver with a knife but was unsuccessful.

When RCMP arrived, they say the suspect attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended and arrested. Mounties say the driver did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
