Bashaw RCMP seize over $17,000 in contraband tobacco and nicotine in Alix
The Bashaw RCMP, along with the AGLC Tobacco Enforcement Team, arrested three individuals last week after they were found to have over $17,000 worth of contraband nicotine and tobacco products.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, police executed a search warrant at the Gas Plus in Alix, Alta. and as a result, found 70 cartons of contraband cigarettes, 54 rolls and 67 tins of contraband nicotine pouches, and eight illegal collapsible batons.
Police say the total retail value of the contraband items is $17,243.30, which resulted in a $9,730,29 loss in taxes.
“Working in valued collaboration with our partners in the AGLC Tobacco Enforcement Team, we were able to support efforts in stopping the illegal sales of cigarettes in the community,” said Cpl. Grant Glasier, a/commander of Bashaw RCMP, in a media release.
