Oct 15, 2025 | 3:01 PM

A Red Deer man charged in the death of a local woman two years ago has been sentenced to four years in jail.

Christopher Lee Furgason, 34, was sentenced in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench on Oct. 14, 2025, after pleading guilty on June 18, 22025, to one count of manslaughter/use of firearm. He was also given a firearm prohibition during sentencing.

Furgason was given credit, however, of 993 days for 662 actual days of pre-trial custody, leaving him with 467 days or a little over one year and three months still to serve behind bars.

Furgason was originally charged with manslaughter with a firearm in the November 2023 incident in Red Deer’s Riverside Meadows neighbourhood.

It was on Nov. 24, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m., when Red Deer RCMP responded to an apartment building for a firearms complaint, where Shaeleigh Jahner, 26, a resident of Red Deer, was found deceased. At 7:30 p.m., a suspect was arrested.

On Nov. 25, 2023, as a result of the investigation, Mounties charged Christopher Furgason, in connection with Jahner’s death.

The incident took place in the area of 59 Avenue between 60 Street and 60a Street, resulting in a shelter in place for Oriole Park School and Koinonia Christian School.

RCMP believed the incident was targeted.
