Nomination deadline approaching for 2025 municipal elections

Sep 10, 2025 | 2:34 PM

The deadline is approaching to get your papers in to run as a candidate in the Oct. 20 municipal election.

In Red Deer, to run for council, mayor, or school trustee, you must get your papers in by noon on Sept. 22.

All nomination requirements and forms are available at elections.reddeer.ca. Candidates are encouraged to book an appointment in advance to submit their paperwork, ensuring Election Office staff are available to review and receive submissions.

“We’re encouraging anyone considering a run for office to take the time to review the candidate information and reach out with any questions,” said Jessica Robinson, returning officer.

“Running for local office is a meaningful way to contribute to the future of our city.”

Eligible voters are also reminded that the deadline to register to vote is Monday, September 15 at 11:59 p.m.

Registering ahead of time helps ensure a faster, smoother voting experience. Those who do not register before the deadline will still be able to vote, but must register at their voting station prior to casting a ballot. To register to vote, go to voterlink.ab.ca.
