RDP Athletes of the Week – Sept. 8, 2025

Sep 9, 2025 | 6:41 AM

Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics has announced its latest Athletes of the Week for Sept. 8.

Olivia Lundell Queens Soccer
Program – Open Studies (2nd)

Hometown – Red Deer, AB

Olivia Lundell played an integral role in the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team earning two road wins this past weekend. Despite not recording a point in Saturday’s 6-1 victory over the Medicine Hat College Rattlers, the second-year midfielder played a sound two-way game. Red Deer’s Lundell helped limit the Rattlers to a single goal while also quickly transitioning the ball up field to the Queens’ offensive weapons. In the game, the talented Open Studies student contributed to RDP’s offensive pressure, accumulating two shots on goal.

On Sunday, Lundell took her game to another level against the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks. She opened the scoring near the end of the first half. After the Kodiaks evened the game 1-1 in the 66th minute, Lundell responded 18 minutes later to lift the RDP Queens to a 2-1 win, helping the Queens improve to 2-0-0 in the early stages of the season. She was named the Queens Player of the Game.

Next, Lundell and the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens will host the SAIT Trojans on Saturday, September 13 at 12 pm.

Japhet Kipkosgei Kings Cross Country Running
Program – University Arts (2nd)
Hometown – Kapsabet, Kenya

Japhet Kipkosgei made a splash in his cross country running season debut. The second-year University Arts student finished first among Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) male competitors at Running Room Grand Prix #1. Kipkosgei, a talented runner from Kenya, completed the 8 km course in 27:52. This impressive result helped the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Cross Country Running team rank first in Edmonton with 23 points.

Kipkosgei has been a valuable member of the RDP Kings Cross Country Running team. His hard work, commitment and desire to improve will serve him well throughout the year.

Kipkosgei and the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings will look to continue this momentum into Running Room Grand Prix #2. The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks will host the event on Saturday, September 20.
