The Red Deer Rebels dropped their preseason opener 5-0 to the Calgary Hitmen on Friday night.

On the road at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex in Tsuut’ina Nation, Hitmen netminder Anders Miller stole the show with an 18-save shutout against the Rebels.

Meanwhile, Rebels goalie Matthew Kondro also had an impressive outing, despite letting in five goals. He made 43 saves on 48 shots.

Calgary started the game like they were shot out of a cannon piling on 24 shots in the opening frame. Despite the consistent pressure, the Hitmen only led by one after the first period following a goal by defenceman Kale McCann.
