Central Albertans compete in Alberta Open Championship
Multiple central Alberta golfers were in the running to win the 89th Alberta Open Championship this week but fell just short.
The tournament, which ran from Aug. 11-13 at River Spirit Golf Club in Calgary, crowned four champions yesterday. This includes professional men’s champion Andrew Harrison from Windermere Golf & Country Club after he shot 13 under-par and amateur men’s champion Benson White from Sirocco Golf Club who shot six under-par.
On the women’s side, Katy Rutherford from the Silver Springs Golf & Country Club was the professional women’s champion after shooting 18 over-par and Sydney Bisgrove, representing the Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club, was the women’s amateur champion after finishing six over-par.
Red Deer’s Jared Nicolls finished sixth in the professional men’s leaderboard at seven under-par and Bennett Love, also from Red Deer, completed the amateur men’s championship tied for 11th at even par. Innisfail’s Joe Kelly was close behind at three over-par.
