Drug and firearms seized in arrest by Lacombe Police

Lacombe Police have charged a man following a firearm and drug-related arrest.

The arrest took place around 1:40 a.m. on July 27 when members conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of 52 Avenue and 51 Street.

The stop was for an alleged violation of the Traffic Safety Act.

“Upon speaking with the driver, officers observed suspected drugs on the vehicle’s centre console and noted signs consistent with drug use,” Lacombe Police say.

“The driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Further investigation led to the discovery of a loaded .22 calibre handgun concealed beneath the centre console.”

The 39-year-old man, of no fixed address, was charged with:

• Two Counts of Possession of a prohibited weapon
• Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a motor vehicle

The man has a court date in Red Deer on Aug. 13.
