Numerous Canada Day celebrations happening around central Alberta

Canada Day is just around the corner and to celebrate our nation’s 158th birthday on July 1, communities across central Alberta will hold various events.

The Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society will hold its 2025 Canada Day Celebration at Great Chief Park and Power Ponds beginning at 11 a.m.

The free event will offer various live stage performances, international food booths, and fireworks at 11 p.m.

There will be bus access to Bower Ponds and the location is wheelchair accessible. The public should also know that pets are not allowed.

Also in Red Deer, Bo’s Bar & Stage will host “The Hip Experience Canada Day Party” where they’ll celebrate our country with a tribute to The Tragically Hip. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, there will be live music played by local artists on the Ross Street Patio from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Innisfail: There will be a Canada Day Kick-Off in the Town of Innisfail at 5:30 p.m. at the Napoleon Sports Field located behind the Innisfail Twin Arena.

In addition, live music, food trucks, beer gardens, and fireworks at 11 p.m. will also take place.

Penhold: The community will hold a Canada Day celebration from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lincoln Street Recreation Centre. The free event will start with pancakes followed by plenty of family fun and entertainment.

Blackfalds: Canada Day in Blackfalds will begin at 1 p.m. at the Tayles Spray Park. The free event will include dj music, glitter tattoos, games, and refreshments.

Rocky Mountain House: Canada Day at Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site will run from 12–6 p.m. Attendees will get the opportunity to take part in Tipi teachings, wagon rides, Ag Olympics, and more. There will also be fireworks at dusk at North Saskatchewan River Park.

Lacombe: There will be a full day of Canada Day activities in the City of Lacombe. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with various events across the community followed by fireworks at dusk.

Olds: Canada Day festivities in Olds will be held at Centennial Park beginning at 10 a.m. with a parade. There will also be activities in the park, free hotdogs, and three different Super Dogs Show viewings at 11:20 a.m., 12:20 p.m., and 1:20 p.m.

Sylvan Lake: Canada Day in Sylvan Lake will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sylvan Lake Pier with the Rotary Club. At the Pier there will be free face painting, cotton candy & balloon animals, temporary tattoos from the Rotary Club, and a storytelling circle. Fireworks will also be launched from the Sylvan Lake Pier at 11 p.m.

Meanwhile, at 2 p.m. there will be a March of Canadians from the municipal government building to the pier. The march will feature members of the Royal Canadian Legion, RCMP, and local dignitaries, which will include a special ceremony with a flag raising and a performance of O’ Canada. They will then march together down main street to the pier for birthday cake.
