Lending Cupboard hosting annual Ladies Luncheon May 8

Apr 17, 2025 | 5:04 PM

The Lending Cupboard is once again inviting the women of central Alberta to attend its 14th annual Ladies Luncheon, May 8 from 11:30 to 1:30 at the Red Deer Resort and Casino.

The theme this year is ‘Wings of Change–Together, we’re expanding horizons and soaring toward brighter futures,’ which means to highlight empowerment, resilience and generosity among women making community impact.

The event of course also raises funds to support The Lending Cupboard’s mission of providing access to medical equipment and daily living aids.

“What’s new with us is that recently expanded our hours; we listened to what the community has said and responded by opening our doors,” says Executive Director Lori Shatto on the decision to open up five days a week — an increase from three.

“We are entirely grateful for the continued support of the community, including our volunteers and staff. We have over 100 volunteers now, which is pretty cool. We know people see the value.”

Indeed the value is there for the city and region — in their last fiscal year, The Lending Cupboard served over 15,000 people, and processed the loaning out of more than 37,000 pieces of equipment.

That’s also why they’re now open Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.

As for why usage has increased, Shatto believes it’s a combination of awareness about The Lending Cupboard, and an actual spike in need for equipment.

“I believe that as our population ages, more folks are wishing to age-in-place,” she says. “I think we will continue to see these numbers rise.”

The Ladies Luncheon will feature a fashion show, as well as a great meal, and the chance to network.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at lendingcupboard.ca, in person at the TLC office (1, 7803 50 Ave., Red Deer), or by calling 403-356-1678.
