EFFECTIVE APR. 16

Fire restriction in effect for County of Stettler

Apr 17, 2025 | 10:50 AM

A fire restriction is in effect for the County of Stettler as of 4 p.m. on April 16 due to current weather conditions.

The county says the current weather forecast does not indicate any additional significant precipitation in the upcoming weeks and the fuel moisture content remains low, prompting the restriction.

Under the restriction:

  • New permits will be issued for a limited five day period for small brush piles. Burning of windrows and large brush piles is prohibited.
  • Essential burning is permitted in burning barrels that are constructed of non-combustible material, with a metal mesh screen with openings no larger than 13 mm.

Off-highway vehicles and farming equipment can start wildfires; users are asked to inspect this equipment frequently to ensure hot spots are free of debris and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.

The restriction does not apply to:

  • Fires contained within cooking and heating appliances that are fueled by propane, natural gas or wood pellets.
  • Fires contained within industrial facilities for operational purposes.
  • Approved gas or propane fueled fire pits, stoves or barbecues.
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters.

Conditions will continue to be monitored and the county will update the public on any changes. Otherwise, the restriction is in effect until further notice.
