Red Deer Hospital Lottery unveils new dream home

Apr 11, 2025 | 2:15 PM

The Red Deer Hospital Lottery is back for its 27th year with it’s biggest prize to date.

This year’s dream home, built by Sorento Custom Homes, is valued at over $1 million and located in the Evergreen neighbourhood of northeast Red Deer.

This year’s ticket purchases will go towards equipment needed by Red Deer Regional Hospital staff to care for patients across central Alberta.

Chief Executive Officer of the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation, Manon Therriault said they’ve raised over $12.5 million over the last 26 years for the hospital, including just under $400,000 last year.

This year they’re aiming to raise more than $400,000.

“How this event funds the hospital is through our emergent capital list. AHS provides us with the things that won’t get funded through government funding,” she said. “The hospital lottery takes a few months to happen so once we conclude and hand the keys off, that’s when we stop and take a look a look at what is that urgent need at that moment… Things change very fast at the hospital.

With 2,824 square feet, the home located at 128 Emmett Crescent has three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms.

Some of the other amenities includes an office, a screened deck, a vaulted ceiling in the kitchen, a two-car garage and an ensuite tub in the master bedroom. In the basement, there’s a large family room, a fitness room with a sauna, and two additional bedrooms.

Each year, the winners of the dream home has either sold it or kept the property. Last year, the winner kept the dream home.

“The hospital lottery is one of our biggest fundraising initiatives at the foundation. It’s beautiful to know our community continues to back us year after year as that provides a level of sustainable funding for us,” she added. “Funding that we can expect to be able to use for those urgent needs.”

This year there are more prizes to be won.

Tickets purchased before noon on May 5 will be eligible for the early bird prize of $20,000, which will be drawn on May 15 at 2 p.m.

The other early bird prize will be for $10,000 and tickets bought before noon on May 26 will be eligible. The draw for the second prize will be on June 5 at 2 p.m.

New this year is a $100,000 cash prize in the final draw, which will be cut off on June 16 with the draw for 10 a.m. on June 26.

There is also a Mega Bucks 50 raffle with a growing jackpot of up to $1 million. The winner of the raffle will take home half of the jackpot.

In addition, there are also non-monetary prizes such as three-dimensional artwork, a DJ E-bike, and various Dyson and Samsung prizes.

A total of $1.24 million in prizes will be awarded.

Main lottery ticket packages are available in different forms including one ticket for $20, eight for $100, 15 for $150, and 30 for $250.

Mega Bucks 50 tickets are also available in packages of one ticket for $10, 10 for $25, 25 for $50, and 50 for $75.

“Central Albertans are so generous and they do care about the hospital and the foundation,” Therriault said. “We have a really great product to raffle off. The home is beautiful and I think our tickets are very affordable. We are one of the lowest ticket prices on the market for lotteries so a $20 ticket is very reasonable for a home lottery.”

The dream home opens to the public on April 11 at 1 p.m. and will be available to view on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. until June 15. They will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Tickets can be purchased on the Red Deer Hospital Lottery website or by calling 403-340-1878/ 1-877-808-9005.
