Liquidation Sales

Red Deer Hudson’s Bay location to close along with 73 others across Canada

Liquidation sales have officially begun at Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) stores across Canada, including in Red Deer.

‘Store closing’ and ‘entire store on sale’ signs can be seen in front of the location at Bower Place in Red Deer as of Tuesday.

This comes as the company announced in a media release on March 28 that sales began at 73 Hudson’s Bay stores across the country while they restructure their business. Also participating in the sale, includes two Saks Fifth Avenue and 13 Saks OFF 5TH stores in Canada.

“The sales will offer unprecedented savings across the vast and diverse inventory as HBC prepares to close its doors at these locations,” as written in the release. “Customers are encouraged to shop early for the best selection and availability.”

The announcement follows HBC’s filing under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) and subsequent approval by an Ontario court to move forward with the commencement of liquidation of 88 stores.

Only six Hudson’s Bay stores avoided liquidation but are all located in Quebec and Ontario. In Alberta, a total of 13 stores will close including in Medicine Hat, Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Red Deer, and St. Albert. It’s unknown when the stores will officially close.

In a emailed statement from Bower Place, they said, “We remain committed to offering exciting retail and dining experiences for our guests. We are happy to share updates about Bower Place as they become available.”

The details of the sales includes discounts ranging from 15 to 40 per cent off with 15 per cent off at Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks OFF 5TH.

All sales are final for purchases made on or after March 25 but returns are accepted through April 6 for purchases made before March 25.

The discounts do not count towards beauty, stripes, and select luxury brands. In addition, gift cards and store credits will be honoured until April 6.

“Canadians have shown extraordinary support for Hudson’s Bay over the last two weeks and overwhelmed us with their encouragement and endearment for the brand. We are extremely fortunate to have such an engaged community behind us,” said Liz Rodbell, President and CEO of Hudson’s Bay in a separate release on March 21. “Our associates have been met with extraordinary kindness from our customers—each of whom reflects the cherished relationships we have built together over generations.”
