Drayton Valley man gets life sentence in Red Deer man’s murder

Mar 25, 2025 | 3:40 PM

A Drayton Valley man charged in the death of a Red Deer man over three years ago has been given a life sentence with parole ineligibility of 14 years and a firearm prohibition.

Jordan David Ruff, 32, was sentenced in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench on March 20, 2025, after being convicted on one count of second-degree murder.

The sentencing follows Ruff’s jury trial held in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench from Jan. 26-Feb 16, 2024.

It was on Nov. 14, 2021, at 3:05 p.m., when Red Deer RCMP received a request to attend a residence in the area of 58 Avenue and 69 Street in Red Deer to assist Emergency Medical Services with the sudden death of 37-year-old Dennis Anderson Edwards of Red Deer.

As a result of further investigation, Red Deer RCMP believed the death to be suspicious. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit then took over the investigation, with an autopsy completed by the Calgary Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

On Nov. 23, 2021, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit obtained a warrant and arrested Jordan David Ruff of Drayton Valley for first-degree murder.
