GREEN DEER SPRING CLEANUP

Contribute to a greener Red Deer with spring cleanup campaign

Mar 21, 2025 | 2:21 PM

Spring is officially here, and while it may not look too green yet, it certainly will soon with the advent of Red Deer’s annual Green Deer Spring Cleanup Campaign.

Running March 21 to May 31, this annual event encourages residents of all ages to roll up their sleeves and clean up litter in their communities.

Last year, 6,927 volunteers participated; this year, the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, event organizer, hopes to beat 7,000.

To participate:

  1. Register online.
  2. Pick up free clean up supplies at one of multiple locations.
  3. Go for a walk and pick up litter around your neighbourhood or in your favourite green space.

All registrants will automatically be entered into a prize draw.

Supplies can be picked up at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre, Red Deer Recreation Centre, G. H. Dawe Community Centre or the Collicutt Centre.

The Nature Centre also asks participants to keep a tally of certain items or scenarios they may encounter during clean up including cigarette butts, vape devices, needles or encampments, if possible. These tallies can be submitted via a Google Form.

Participants are asked to report needles to Red Deer Public Works at 403-342-8238 and encampments to the RCMP non-emergency line at 403-406-2200.

Additionally, any items that were too large, heavy or difficult to reach can be reported to the City for later pick up.
