RDP Athletes of the Week: March 7-9

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce Kaedence Mollin (Queens Hockey) and Colby Nemeth (Kings Volleyball) as the RDP Athletes of the Week:

Kaedence Mollin, Queens Hockey
Program – Bachelor of Science in Nursing (third)
Hometown – Kelowna, BC

This past weekend, Kaedence Mollin demonstrated strong leadership and play in the opening three games of the best-of-five Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Hockey Championship Final against the Lakeland College Rustlers. Mollin, a third-year defender, recorded two points, including a game winning goal, and helped the RDP Queens win one of the first three road games in the gold medal series.

In Friday’s game, Kelowna’s Mollin, the Queens captain, scored her team’s lone goal in a 1-0 shutout victory over the Rustlers. She was also extremely effective in the defensive zone.

On Saturday, the Rustlers evened the series with a 5-1 decision over the Queens. Mollin, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, picked up an assist on teammate Emily Hourie’s goal. Then Lakeland College jumped ahead two games to one with a 4-1 win over the Polytechnic on Sunday.

The RDP Queens will look to even the series against the Lakeland College Rustlers in game four at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre on Friday, March 14 at 7 p.m.

Mollin is having a tremendous season both on and off the ice. Recently, she was acknowledged as ACAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Year, ACAC Women’s Hockey Top Scholastic Achiever, a member of the ACAC Women’s Hockey First All-Conference team and an ACAC Women’s Hockey Academic All-Canadian.

Colby Nemeth, Kings Volleyball
Program – Bachelor of Commerce (fourth)
Hometown – Red Deer, Alberta

Colby Nemeth, a six-foot-five power hitter, has been instrumental in the success of the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Volleyball team this season. Nemeth contributed on both sides of the net, helping to guide the Kings to gold at the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Volleyball National Championship in Niverville, Manitoba. The victory was the Kings’ 14th CCAA National Championship.

In Wednesday’s quarter-final, Nemeth and the Kings defeated the host Providence Pilots in straight sets (25-23, 25-15 and 25-21). The talented fourth-year student-athlete recorded a game-high 13 kills (0.259), along with two service aces, one assist, one block and one dig.

In the semi-finals, the RDP Kings swept the Humber Hawks (26-24, 25-23 and 25-10). Once again, Red Deer’s Nemeth, the Kings Player of the Match, led both teams in kills (12). He added seven digs, four aces, one assist and one block.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings cruised past the Douglas Royals in three sets for CCAA gold (25-19, 25-17 and 25-18). Nemeth led the Kings with nine kills (0.353). He tacked on three aces, one dig and one assist.
