This week in RDP Athletics: Feb. 20-23

This week, the RDP Kings and Queens Volleyball squads will compete at the ACAC Championships. The Kings and Queens Hockey teams will wrap up the regular season. The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Futsal squads will compete in the second South Regional in Olds.

Here is a summary of the upcoming competition:

Volleyball

ACAC Women’s Volleyball Championship | U of A Augustana | February 20-22

The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball team will open the ACAC Championship against the NAIT Ooks on Thursday, February 20 at 1 pm. During the regular season, the Queens (13-6) finished second in the ACAC South Division. The Ooks (12-7) ranked third in the North Division.

ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championship | Lakeland College | February 20-22

The RDP Kings will play the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings in their first match of the ACAC Championship on Thursday, February 20 at 8 pm. The Kings (18-1) were first in the South Division. The Vikings (8-11) are the fourth seed from the north.

Hockey

Queens at Olds College Broncos | Thursday, February 20 | 7 p.m.

The third place RDP Queens Hockey team (16W-6L-1 OTL) will challenge the fifth seed Broncos (6W-16L-1 OTL) in Olds. Kaedence Mollin, a third-year Queens defender, sits fifth in the league with 20 points.

Queens vs Broncos | Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre | Saturday, February 22 | 7 p.m.

In their final regular season game, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens will host the Broncos. The Queens have solidified a playoff spot.

RDP Kings at Portage College Voyageurs | Friday, February 21 | 7 p.m.

The fourth seed Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team (11W-8L-2 OTL-1 SOL) will face-off against the Portage College Voyageurs (4W-17L-1 OTL-0 SOL). The Voyageurs are seventh in ACAC Men’s Hockey.

RDP at Portage College | Saturday, February 22 | 1 p.m.

The RDP Kings and Voyageurs will complete the regular season in an afternoon game.

The Kings have already made the playoffs. The top six squads will advance to the postseason.

Futsal

ACAC Women’s Second South Regional | Olds College of Agriculture & Technology | February 22-23

  • Queens (2-3-1) vs Ambrose University Lions (0-6) | February 22 | 10 a.m.
  • RDP Queens vs Medicine Hat College Rattlers (4-2) | February 22 | 12:45 p.m.
  • Queens vs Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks (3-3) | February 23 | 11:45 a.m.
  • RDP Queens vs SAIT Trojans (6-0) | February 23 | 3:15 p.m.

After the completion of both South Regionals, the top three teams from each division will qualify for the ACAC Futsal Championship. The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens enter the second South Regional in fourth place.

ACAC Men’s Second South Regional | Olds College of Agriculture & Technology | February 22-23

  • Kings (4-1-1) vs Lions (2-4) | February 22 | 11:15 a.m.
  • RDP Kings vs Rattlers (4-0-2) | February 22 | 3 p.m.
  • Kings vs Kodiaks (1-3-2) | February 23 | 2 p.m.
  • RDP Kings vs Trojans (0-5-1) | February 23 | 4:30 p.m.

After the weekend, the top three teams from each division will qualify for the ACAC Futsal Championship. The RDP Kings enter this South Regional in second spot.
