Special Olympics holds curling invitational

Special Olympics Red Deer invites the community to cheer on its athletes at an invitational curling competition this weekend, on Feb. 9.

The competition runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Michener Hill Curling Club.

“It’s just an opportunity for some of our athletes to get some competition, as opposed to just each Monday when they meet, they do mainly practice,” said Jerry Tennant, chairman of the Red Deer affiliate. “This will give them a chance to have some competition among themselves and also against some of the teams from outside the area.”

Tennant notes, there isn’t a large amount of viewing space at the location, but the community is still invited to swing by and see how the organization operates and what its athletes can do.
