Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Athletics is very proud to announce Tora Ward (Queens Hockey) and Dawson Leroux (Kings Hockey) as the RDP Athletes of the Week:

Tora Ward
Queens Hockey
Program – Bachelor of Education (second year)
Hometown – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Tora Ward (Bachelor of Education) was outstanding in the Queens’ net against the NAIT Ooks Friday evening. Despite being outshot 42-20, Ward (0.976) and the Queens earned an important 2-1 home victory. Ward was instrumental in the RDP Queens killing off all nine of NAIT’s power play opportunities, helping her team maintain its top ranking on the penalty kill (93.9 per cent).

In the third period, the Ooks fired a game-high 15 shots at Ward, but they only managed to get one by the talented second-year netminder. Saskatoon’s Ward was recognized as the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game. Ward sits fifth in the league with a 2.41 goals against average.

Next, Ward and the third seed RDP Queens (12W-6L-1 OTL-0 SOL) will face-off against the fourth place SAIT Trojans (5W-10L-2 OTL-2 SOL).

Dawson Leroux
Kings Hockey
Program – Bachelor of Business Administration (second year)
Hometown – Lethbridge, Alberta

Dawson Leroux made an impact on the ice for the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team, contributing a total of four goals and helping his squad pick up a pair of wins over the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings. In Friday’s 3-2 decision, Leroux scored twice on the power play. His second goal tied the game 2-2 at 14:43 of the middle frame. Leroux, a second-year forward from Lethbridge, was named the Kings Player of the Game.

Then in Saturday’s 5-2 home victory, he found the back of the net two more times, scoring the Kings’ third and fourth goals. The third tally turned out to be the game winning goal.

In 17 games, Leroux (Bachelor of Business Administration) has seven goals and 12 assists.

Next, Leroux and the third place Kings (11W-6L-2 OTL-1 SOL) will play the second seed Briercrest College Clippers (13W-4L-1 OTL-0 OTL) on February 14 and 15.
