Extreme cold warning issued for Red Deer and area
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued an extreme cold warning for Red Deer and the surrounding area.
Extremely cold wind chill values near minus 40 are expected or occurring. While temperatures will be somewhat more moderate during the day, nighttime and early morning wind chills near minus 40 will likely continue for parts of the province into the middle of the week.
ECCC says extreme cold puts everyone at risk, especially young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors and those without proper shelter.
The organization asks residents to watch for cold related symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.
