Special Olympics swim meet hits the water this weekend

Special Olympics Red Deer is hosting a swim meet competition this weekend, welcoming athletes of all abilities and skill levels.

On Feb. 1, swimmers will head to the Michener Aquatic Centre at 10:30 a.m. for registration. Warm ups will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., when the meet will kick off.

The races will wrap up by 6 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m., athletes, coaches and registered guests will head to Westerner Park for a dinner and awards celebration.

Athletes may only compete in a maximum of six events and registration needed to be completed by mid-December 2024.

While the public is welcome to come and show their support, Special Olympics officials note there is limited viewing space at the venue.
