RDP partners with BorderPass to improve international student immigration process

Jan 31, 2025 | 3:14 PM

Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) is excited to announce that it has partnered with BorderPass, a platform intended to streamline the immigration process for international students.

The platform should complement the student services and supports provided by RDP, assisting the students throughout their entire journey, from getting accepted into a program, to employment after graduation.

“We are excited to collaborate with BorderPass, which provides international students with cost-effective, legal support as they navigate the immigration process to study, live and work in Canada,” says Werner Beylefeld, dean of international education at RDP. “As we increase our global presence and opportunities at RDP, we anticipate that interest from international students to attend the Polytechnic will continue to grow. We will continue to welcome both domestic and international students on our campuses as diversity strengthens the entire RDP community.”

RDP officials say BorderPass is used by thousands of international students and provides access to Canadian immigration lawyers who provide legal expertise about preparing and filing study permit applications, along with exploring permanent residency pathways.

It also helps to keep important immigration documents organized and provides automatic updates on an individual’s immigration process.

RDP says its “robust” student services offer a variety of academic and settlement supports to all students, including international students, through things like academic advising, health and wellbeing and tutoring supports.

Additionally, RDP offers an International Mentorship Program, which connects new international students with continuing RDP students who can provide support as international learners adjust to post-secondary studies and life in Alberta.

“With more than 100 industry-ready programs, RDP offers enhanced education, training and applied research opportunities that prepare both domestic and international students to help address the needs of industries and communities,” adds Beylefeld. “By aligning our programming with the demands of industry, RDP’s graduates play an integral role in helping to fulfill labour market shortfalls, advancing Alberta’s economic and social prosperity, and increasing productivity.”

RDP’s support of its international learners aligns with its 2030 Strategic Plan: Productivity and Social Impact, as the institution aims to grow its enrollment by 50 per cent in an inclusive environment.
