Rebels fall in Prince Albert for 12th consecutive loss

Jan 18, 2025 | 8:53 PM

The Red Deer Rebels outshot the Prince Albert Raiders 33-19 but struggled to find the back of the net in a 3-1 loss on Saturday night in Saskatchewan.

Raiders Tomas Mrsic scored two goals and goaltender Max Hildebrand made 32 saves in a strong performance at the Art Hauser Centre in Prince Albert.

Red Deer only scored one powerplay goal on six opportunities but were strong on the penalty kill going three-for-four. Their lone goal came from rookie forward Beckett Hamilton.

The Raiders scored two in the first period and didn’t look back.

The first came nearly eight minutes into the first period off the stick of Rilen Kovacevic assisted by Lacombe’s Daxon Rudolph.

Later in the frame, the Raiders made it 2-0 on the powerplay scored by Mrsic.

Late in the second period, the Rebels got on the board on the man advantage. Hamilton capitalized on a five-on-three powerplay with 41 seconds left on a cross-crease pass from Samuel Drancak.

Despite the jolt of momentum for the Rebels heading into the intermission, the Raiders extended their lead 3-1 in the third period after Mrsic scored his second of the evening with a little over eight minutes remaining.

That goal sealed the Rebels fate for their 12 straight loss in their final game in the road trip through Saskatchewan.

Forward Jaxon Fuder did not play because he was suspended one game for his hit into the boards on Friday night in Saskatoon.

Cohen Poulin was swapped into the lineup to make up for not only Fuder but also Kalan Lind, Ollie Josephson, and Jhett Larson who are out with injuries.

Meanwhile, Matthew Gard left the game in the second after he was hit into the boards.

Next up, the Rebels will head to the Lethbridge next Friday, Jan. 24 for a matchup with the Hurricanes at 7 p.m. followed by a home game against the Moose Jaw Warriors at the Centrium on Saturday night. The Rebels will also play in Calgary on Sunday against the Hitmen at 6 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
