Temporary closures to Stettler Hospital Emergency Department upcoming during holiday season

Alberta Health Services has announced upcoming temporary closures to the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre Emergency Department.

Officials with AHS say, due to a temporary gap in physician coverage the Emergency Department will be closed at various times between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 25 from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26
  • Thursday, Dec. 26 from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27 – CLOSURE CANCELLED AS GAP FILLED, SAYS AHS
  • Monday, Dec. 30 from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, and
  • Tuesday, Dec. 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

“AHS is grateful for the support of staff and physicians who have helped minimize this temporary disruption as much as possible. Additionally, AHS appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time,” states a media release.

“Alberta Health Services provides a range of healthcare services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Our mission is to provide excellent, patient-focused healthcare that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans. Our current focus is on reducing emergency department wait times, improving EMS response times, increasing access to surgeries, and improving patient flow.”

AHS says nursing staff will be on site in the Emergency Department during the closures to assess patients and refer them to alternate care options.

Those requiring emergency care will be transported to other nearby facilities including the Drumheller Health Centre, Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre, St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose, Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital in Castor or Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.

Other services at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre are not impacted by the closure.
