Residential buildings and commercial space announced in Capstone

Dec 18, 2024 | 12:58 PM

Long awaited residential construction will soon be coming to Red Deer’s Capstone neighbourhood.

On Tuesday, Capstone announced the sale of 1.6-acres of land to Abbey Platinum Master Built, which marks a significant milestone in residential growth in the downtown area.

The sale will now lead the way for the construction of 64 modern, stacked townhomes and commercial space in Capstone at the corner of Alexander Way and 54 Avenue near Carnival Cinemas.

In a media release from the City of Red Deer, it’s stated the development of townhomes will help meet the growing interest for urban housing in downtown Red Deer which will offer a diverse range for those interested.

The plans for the project will be unveiled in early 2025.

“We’re excited to see growing confidence in the Capstone vision from the private sector,” said Red Deer Mayor Ken Johnston. “This new development reflects the strength of the vision and our dedication to bringing essential infrastructure to Red Deer. Abbey has received their development permit, and we’re collaborating closely to ensure smooth site preparation and construction.”

Cory Edinga, Capstone project manager, said next summer they’ll welcome new residents following the construction of The Alex developed by High Rise Properties.

“Over the next few years, Red Deerians can expect significant transformation in the community,” said Cory Edinga, Capstone Project Manager.

“If you haven’t visited recently, it’s worth a trip to see firsthand how Capstone is growing and evolving. There’s much more happening here than meets the eye.”
