GOOD CONDITIONS FOR ICE

Most Red Deer outdoor skating rinks expected to open this weekend

Dec 12, 2024 | 4:57 PM

The City of Red Deer reports that as of Friday, Dec. 13, most neighbourhood outdoor rinks should be ready for use.

Recent cold temperatures and snowfall have created good conditions for ice build up, however, some rinks still have thin spots, officials say. As rinks are ready to open, the City will deliver hockey nets and activate lighting systems.

Skating at Bower Ponds is not ready to open just yet as conditions are still not safe.

The City reminds rink users that helmets are recommended at all times and hockey is not permitted at the ice skating oval at Setters Place at Great Chief Park.
