Cremona RCMP arrest man for two counts of attempted murder

A Cremona man has been charged with attempted murder after an incident on Nov. 18.

Montana Ronquist, 29, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder following the incident that took place at 2:37 a.m.

Didsbury RCMP responded to a residence in Cremona after receiving a call from someone in Calgary saying the accused was attacking two other occupants.

After police arrived, they found an 86-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman who had been seriously injured. Police provided first aid to both victims before they were taken to a Calgary hospital. Both remain in hospital care but are expected to survive.

Police searched the home and found the accused in the basement. He was taken into custody after a brief confrontation without further incident.

Following a judicial interim release hearing, Ronquist was remanded into custody and will appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary on Nov. 20.
