RDP Athletics weekend recap

The Queens Hockey team scored five goals on their way to winning their season and home opener against the Olds College Broncos this past Friday.

On Saturday, the Queens Soccer team found the net five times to shut out the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings.

Completing the weekend of game action were a couple of key matchups for the soccer team’s against the SAIT Trojans. The Queens fought hard but fell 1-0 after a last minute goal scored by the Trojans. The Kings on the other hand were on the winning side of a 1-0 final.

RDP Queens at University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings | Saturday, October 5

Midfielder Olivia Lundell (Open Studies) was in on all five goals the Queens scored against the Vikings on Saturday in the 5-0 victory with two goals and three assists.

She was later named the ACAC player of the game.

Queens vs SAIT Trojans | RDP Main Field | Sunday, October 6

The RDP Queens (7-2-0) fell 1-0 to the undefeated SAIT Trojans (9-0-0) on Sunday.

Queens goalkeeper Jana Leskewich (Bachelor of Education) stopped seven of eight shots in the loss. Defender Payton Erick (Business Diploma) was awarded the player of the match for her relentless work at centreback.

Red Deer Polytechnic Kings vs Trojans | Sunday, October 6

The first place RDP Kings (4-1-2) picked up a huge 1-0 victory over the SAIT Trojans on Sunday afternoon to give them a one point lead over the second place Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks.

Forward Ajdin Sarcevic (Business Administration) scored the lone goal on a penalty kick in the 15th minute while goalkeeper Brian Murray stopped all four shots he faced in the victory to earn himself the player of the game honours.

Red Deer Polytechnic Queens vs Olds College Broncos | Friday, October 4

The RDP Queens used five different goal scorers to walk away with a 5-2 victory in the team’s season and home opener against the Olds College Broncos on Friday night.

Defense Addison Longmore finished with two assists and was named the ACAC player of the game.
