#FirstFridaysRedDeer Reception October 4th from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Check out the exhibit before it closes!

Description: Just west of Sylvan Lake, Larry Reese and his wife Tanya Ryga have lived for decades surrounded by agricultural land and the people who work those farms. Over the years, Larry has made connections with a number of local farmers who allow him to paint on their land en plein air, capturing the extraordinary challenges in their ordinary lives. His upcoming “Farm Friendly” exhibition is a retrospective culmination of those experiences.

As part of Larry Reese’s art show reception at the Kiwanis gallery for First Friday, there will be a short documentary film on farming by Tyler Duffy.

Larry’s paintings are often completed in his studio, but many are started en plein air in the field to capture the snapshots of those moments. They reflect the diversity of the landscapes and the seasons, and the range of challenges that farmers face in providing the world with food while retaining a love and respect for their land.

Artist: Dave Kerby Solorzanzo Day Café & Wine Bar, 4631 50 Street, Red Deer Dates: October 4th #FirstFridaysRedDeer Reception October 4th starting 5pm

My Dave’s first interest in photography began in the 1980’s when he purchased a semi-pro video system and began to explore the wildlife and scenery of the Elk Valley of British Columbia. It was here that he received his first credits by supplying Grizzly Bear Footage on two television programs about Grizzly Bear Safety in Alberta. Dave’s career in the Safety and Loss Control field presented the opportunity to further expand his skills by developing and filming a series of training videos for Security Personnel in Vancouver, B.C. Upon retiring in 2012 Dave’s gift to himself was a DSLR camera and a membership in the CAPS photography club. The years with CAPS and the sharing of experience has been invaluable in developing his craft.

As part of this work, OWAA is dedicated to finding symbolic caretakers for orphan wells across what is now known as Alberta.

Orphan Well Adoption Agency reimagines the future of Alberta’s orphaned oil wells. The exhibition delves into the complex relationship between industry, land, and community. Visitors are invited to engage with concepts of care and environmental repair through a blend of photography, drawing, installation, video, and participatory art. The exhibition challenges the colonial-capitalist mindset of extractivism and promotes a reciprocal relationship with the land.

The public is invited to visit OWAA’s off-site office and a display of their work at Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery from [exhibition dates] 2024. Orphan well adoptions will be facilitated on selected days throughout the exhibition.

Artist Statement: I am a Photographer/Digital Artist. In my Art, I alter the Photograph, but aim to maintain the Integrity of the Subject. I love to break all the Rules and pre-conceived Ideas of what is considered the “ Norm”.

When I begin my Creation, I aim towards a Direction, but seldom adhere to my original Plan. I allow myself 100%Creative Freedom and therefore often surprise myself. My Artwork is all of my own Materials. Photos ,Textures, Patterns are all photographed and/or created by me. My belief is that “ Colors speak Volumes “and I often choose to be Loud , Strong and Lively! I challenge myself to create Outside the Box, no Dramatic or Political Under-tones here. Simply an Invitation to share a Moment , into a whimsical and peaceful Place that that may and may not really exist!
