MINISTER NATE GLUBISH AND COMPANY

Alberta representatives travelling to U.S. to encourage data centre investment

Sep 18, 2024 | 4:56 PM

Alberta’s Minister of Technology and Innovation Nate Glubish is travelling to San Francisco in an effort to promote the province’s potential as a data centre investment destination.

Joined by Rob Davidson from the Alberta Electric System Operator and Vlad Oujegov from Invest Alberta, officials say the group’s objective is to attract U.S. technology and data centre-related infrastructure companies to invest in the development of advanced, sustainable data centres within the province.

The delegation is also expected to discuss regulatory frameworks and investment conditions required for data centre investment to highlight Alberta’s competitive strengths.

“From infrastructure to market access, Alberta is the premier destination for artificial intelligence hyperscale data centers. Our competitive advantages around electricity, water, telecommunications and regulatory framework are unmatched in Canada and North America. I look forward to promoting Alberta as the destination of choice for data centre investment,” said Glubish.

According to provincial officials, the group will meet with leading technology companies and investors in the field of data centres. They are also expected to attend the Cleantech Group Data Centre Event’s panel discussion to discuss the future of data centre development as it relates to energy consumption. Organizers of the event expect about 100 attendees including venture capitalists, tech leaders and thought leaders from the climate tech sector.

Glubish will travel with two staff members. Trip expenses will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.
