RCMP confirm recent operations in Red Deer connected to search for Elijah Blake Strawberry

RCMP are now confirming that their multiple heavy presences in north Red Deer this week were related to the search for murder suspect Elijah Blake Strawberry.

Strawberry is wanted in connection to the killing of Airdrie resident Colin Hough in Rocky View County on Aug. 6, 2024.

RCMP made one arrest shortly after that shooting occurred, but Strawberry has been on the run ever since. RCMP have maintained in recent weeks that they believe he is still in Alberta, and even opened up a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. The other man arrested is 35-year-old Arthur Wayne Penner, who’s been charged with first-degree murder. Strawberry is to be charged with second-degree murder, according to an earlier report by RCMP.

This week, Red Deer RCMP first had a heavy presence on the north end on the evening of Sept. 2 near Save-On-Foods. No arrest was made after about four hours of searching.

On Sept. 4, an even larger presence was set up at nearby Wedgewood Gardens apartment complex, behind Village Mall. Police were present all day and still made no arrest.

Police vehicles could then be seen on the median across from Wedgewood Gardens and throughout Riverside Meadows for part of the day on Sept. 5.

“In order to facilitate this search, we continue to employ a dedicated team of trained investigators whose sole purpose is to locate and safely arrest this suspect. This week our investigative team as well as other support units were in the Red Deer area following up on investigational leads,” RCMP say.

“We conducted searches of several locations without success. We remain confident that Strawberry remains in Alberta and ask Albertans to remain vigilant.”

Alberta RCMP have also extended the timeframe for their $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of 28-year-old Strawberry.

RCMP have also released higher quality photos of Strawberry.

Elijah Strawberry is described as:

• Light complexion;
• 6 feet 1 inch tall;
• 169 pounds;
• Brown Hair;
• Several Tattoos. The most recognizable of these tattoos include: “Trust” on left hand, “Honour and Loyalty” on right hand, X’s and cobweb on right forehead, geometric lines on left neck and face that extend onto his forehead.

Elijah Strawberry is considered armed and dangerous. If seen do not approach – dial 911 immediately.
