Discovery Canyon reopens at River Bend after water quality concerns

The Discovery Canyon water feature in Red Deer, which unexpectedly had to close in late July due to elevated levels of fecal bacteria, is once again open.

Located at River Bend, water continued to pump since the closure began July 26. This was to provide constant filtration.

Two tests by Alberta Health Services have confirmed the water quality has been returned to a safe state.

“It’s unfortunate that we closed the feature over the last two weekends, but safety of our guests is our top concern,” says Rob MacPherson, General Manager of River Bend Golf and Recreation Society.

Both River Bend and the City of Red Deer thank the public for their understanding and cooperation during the closure.
