Optimist Club of Red Deer Hosts 3rd Annual Duck Race

The Optimist Club of Red Deer has announced its 3rd Annual Red Deer Duck Race, set to take place on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at River Bend Recreation Area.

Organizers say this family-friendly event promises a day of fun, excitement, and community spirit, all in support of local youth programs.

The event will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with the main race starting at 11:00 a.m. Hundreds of numbered rubber ducks will be released into the water, racing towards the finish line. Participants have the chance to adopt a duck for $20, with all proceeds going directly to the Optimist Club’s initiatives aimed at empowering and enriching the lives of young people in Red Deer.

  • Adopt a Duck: $20 per duck

“We are excited to bring the community together for our 3rd Annual Duck Race,” said, Les Trevor, President of the Optimist Club of Red Deer. “This event not only provides fun for families but also supports our mission of making a positive impact on the youth in our community.”

A cash prize will be awarded to the owner of the first duck to cross the finish line, a 50/50 draw and a scooter door prize draw for youth.

The Optimist Club of Red Deer is a volunteer organization dedicated to bringing out the best in kids through a variety of service projects and activities. Officials say the funds raised from the Duck Race will help support programs such as health and wellbeing, sports and recreation and education.

The success of the Duck Race relies heavily on the support of local businesses and volunteers. Additionally, volunteers are needed to help with event setup, race coordination, and activities.
