As Rangeland Derby 101 at the Calgary Stampede came to a close on a perfect night of chuckwagon racing, the finals of the Calgary Stampede Cowboys Rangeland Derby was an exciting and historic event. In the end, it was veteran driver Jason Glass, driving the Birchcliff Energy Ltd. Outfit, and along with outriders Dayton Sutherland and Tyson Whitehead, who won the championship final from barrel number one in heat number nine, by 1.91 seconds over defending Rangeland Derby Champion Layne MacGillivray who placed second from barrel number two, while Chanse Vigen placed third from barrel position number three.

It’s the second time that Jason Glass has won the Cowboys Rangeland Derby Championship as a chuckwagon driver, his first coming in 2013, and a first for outriders Dayton Sutherland and Tyson Whitehead.

The Orville Strandquist Memorial Top Rookie Driver Award went to Dayton Sutherland for having the best 10-day Aggregate time of 12:19.09 among all of the first-time drivers, beating out Chance Flad and Chance Thomson.
