Temporary closure of Stettler Hospital ED Thursday

Jun 20, 2024 | 9:28 AM

Due to an unexpected gap in physician coverage, the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre Emergency Department (ED) will be temporarily closed on Thursday, June 20, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m..

Officials with Alberta Health Services (AHS) say the ED will reopen and resume normal operations at 5 p.m..

During this temporary closure, AHS says nursing staff will remain on-site in the ED to provide triage and assessments to patients who present to the department. Patients will be referred to alternative care options depending on their condition.

AHS says EMS will transport patients requiring emergency care to nearby facilities, including Lacombe Hospital and Care Centre, Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre or Drumheller Health Centre.

The health agency says other care services at the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre are not impacted by this temporary closure.

AHS says efforts to secure alternative coverage remain ongoing. In the event coverage is secured, AHS says the ED will reopen earlier, and the community will be informed.

AHS says it is grateful for the support of staff and physicians who have helped minimize this temporary disruption as much as possible. Additionally, AHS says it appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
