HAMILTON SKATE PARK EXPANSION

Construction begins for expanded multi-use skate park in Ponoka

Jun 18, 2024 | 1:46 PM

The Town of Ponoka is upgrading and expanding the Hamilton Skate Park to stretch to include the space currently occupied by the Town recycling yard.

The extended facility will be multi-use for skate boards, bicycles, inline skates, and scooters. It will include features like a 38 metre long snake run; vert and pyramid ramps; landscaped gathering and seating areas; and lighting.

“This new, expanded facility will be an accessible and attractive space that can be enjoyed by all ability levels and ages,” says Ponoka Mayor Kevin Ferguson. “And the redevelopment of the former recycling yard will greatly improve that area of the downtown corridor.”

The Town says preparation of the space began this week, and the existing park will remain open for most of the construction process with the exception of a brief closing later in the summer as it is enhanced and connected to the new facility.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to exercise caution around the construction zone, which will be fenced to protect the safety of passersby. The new, expanded skate park aligns with the Town of Ponoka’s strategic priorities of investing in infrastructure and creating a vibrant community.
