June 14 and 15 Affected

Temporary weekend closures at Rocky Mountain House Emergency Department

Jun 13, 2024 | 4:41 PM

Due to an unanticipated gap in physician coverage, the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre Emergency Department (ED) will experience temporary closures this weekend, including:

  • Closed Friday, June 14 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., and
  • Closed Saturday, June 15 from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 16.

Officials with Alberta Health Services (AHS) say efforts to secure alternate coverage continue, though have been unsuccessful at this time. In the event either closure is avoided or reduced, the community will be updated.

During the temporary closures, AHS says nursing staff will remain in the ED to assess any patients who present to the site. They will provide first aid where needed and refer patients to alternate care facilities in surrounding communities, including the Myron Thompson Health Centre in Sundre, Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre and Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, as needed.

AHS says EMS will transport patients to other sites as needed.

Anyone requiring emergency medical care during this time is asked to call 911. EMS calls will be re-routed to surrounding facilities.

All other services at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre are expected to continue to operate as normal during the ED closures. Inpatient units are not affected.

AHS says it is grateful for the support of staff and physicians who have helped minimize this temporary disruption as much as possible. Additionally, AHS appreciates the support of surrounding healthcare centres and would like to thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
