The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (SSA) invites you to participate in our Strides of Hope Walk, in recognition of World Schizophrenia Day.

ABOUT SSA:
For over 43 years, the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta has supported individuals living with schizophrenia and their families through our peer support and educational programs. SSA ensures accessibility of our no-cost programs to all Albertans in-person, over the phone, and through our online programming. SSA also owns and operates 3 supportive housing programs which are home to 56 individuals living with schizophrenia.
THE FACTS:
· 1 in 100 people worldwide live with schizophrenia. In Alberta that’s over 48,000 individuals!
· Violence is not a symptom of schizophrenia. People living with schizophrenia are much more likely to be the victim of violence.
· 96% of people living with schizophrenia report experiencing discrimination in their community.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
It’s easy! Wear purple and have some fun during the walk to help make a difference for the 185,000 Albertans that are affected by schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a treatable brain disorder, with proper medical care and support from a caring community, recovery is possible! Every step will get us that much closer to our goals of raising awareness and reducing the stigma.
