Red Deer Hospice Live Butterfly Release is back
The Red Deer Hospice Annual Live Butterfly Campaign is back!
Families can purchase a live butterfly to release in remembrance of a loved one, to celebrate a milestone in life or to give hope to someone who needs it, all while supporting end-of-life care in Central Alberta.
“Every year we host a memorial butterfly release to remember and celebrate with the families who have had someone journey through Hospice in the previous year. We know there are people in our community who want to continue the tradition as well as celebrate new chapters in their lives,” explained Fonda Devereaux, Fund Development Manager at the Red Deer Hospice. “We are honoured to share this tradition that is so special to Hospice while also creating a greater connection with our community”.
Hospice officials say the release of butterflies is a healing experience that can comfort family and friends who have experienced a loss. They are also often considered beautiful representations of the various stages of life and demonstrate that despite adversity, simple changes and time can make life even more beautiful than before.
