AltaLink performing aerial patrols in central Alberta

May 10, 2024 | 7:36 AM

Beginning May 13, AltaLink will be using a helicopter to perform an aerial patrol of its electrical transmission facilities in southern and central Alberta.

The patrols are expected to be complete by May 17, weather permitting. The company says this annual patrol provides a visual inspection of its transmission lines and surrounding vegetation, helping to maintain the reliability of the grid through proactive maintenance.

The following communities may see a helicopter in the area: Rocky View County; Airdrie; Red Deer/Red Deer County; Lacombe/Lacombe County; Rocky Mountain House; Mountain View County; Sundre; Crossfield; Foothills County; Okotoks; High River; Diamond Valley; Cochrane; Canmore; Banff; Lake Louise; and Kananaskis.

In advance, AltaLink apologizes for any disturbance or inconvenience to residents near the power lines that will be patrolled. When conducting aerial surveys, the company says it is mindful to minimize disruption to residences, area users, livestock and wildlife.
