motorists must use extra caution

Provincial Highway Cleanup happening May 4 across Alberta

May 3, 2024 | 1:57 PM

Motorists using Alberta highways on Saturday, May 4, will want to take extra caution.

From 7 a.m. until 5 p.m., volunteers in orange safety vests will be collecting trash along provincial highways for the annual highway cleanup.

Drivers are reminded to slow down, obey signs, watch for pedestrians, and use caution when passing cleanup crews.

“On May 4, join us in keeping Alberta’s highways clean and safe for everyone,” says Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors.

“Together, we can make a difference in our communities. I want to thank all the volunteers for participating in this year’s annual highway cleanup.”

Volunteers from 4-H clubs, Scouts, Girl Guides, schools, church organizations, Rotary clubs, sports teams, and other non-profit organizations will participate in the cleanup event.

In some regions of the province with wildfire activity, or in the event of poor weather, some areas may complete the cleanup on May 11, or delay until later in the month.
