Nominations open for Alberta Community Justice Awards

Apr 17, 2024 | 11:17 AM

Officials with the provincial government say nominations for Alberta Community Justice Awards are now open to recognize individuals and organizations that are making communities safer.

The Province says the annual awards shine a spotlight on unsung heroes whose innovative efforts and outstanding leadership have helped prevent crime and protected Alberta communities.

Albertans are invited to nominate individuals, organizations, businesses and community groups that have made extraordinary contributions to community justice through sustainable and effective crime prevention, victim services and restorative justice, among other community justice activities and initiatives.

“These awards not only acknowledge the work done by individuals and organizations, but they also serve to inspire others to make positive contributions to our communities and for our collective safety,” says Mickey Amery, Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

Officials add, recipients will be honored for their outstanding contributions on June 28 in Camrose in a ceremony co-hosted by the Camrose Police Service.

The Province notes this year’s accolades will see the introduction of a new award to recognize those who have significantly contributed to the administration of justice in Alberta. Officials say the Enhanced Justice Award will honour individuals and organizations whose innovative efforts have supported a fair and accessible justice system in their communities.

“Through the Alberta Community Justice Awards, we celebrate the proactive efforts of individuals and organizations who are making a difference in their community,” says Mike Ellis, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services. “By demonstrating outstanding leadership and a commitment to crime prevention, they are fostering safer communities for all Albertans.”

Officials say nominations are open to many organizations from youth justice committees to victim services groups. Nominees will span across various categories including Emerging Excellence, Innovation, Service Enhancement, Partnerships and Collaboration, as well as the newly introduced Enhancing Justice Award.

To nominate a deserving individual or organization, submissions must be made by noon on May 15.
