Multiple Collisions on Hwy 2

Innisfail RCMP advise of poor road conditions

Apr 17, 2024 | 10:04 AM

Innisfail RCMP would like to advise the public of poor road conditions on Highway 2, starting north of Innisfail and spreading to the south of Bowden.

Mounties say the roads are covered in ice and snow, resulting in multiple collisions and vehicles driving off the road. Police say no injuries have been reported so far.

Alberta RCMP reminds the public to slow down and drive to the conditions of the road and advise there will be delays on Highway 2 northbound and southbound in the area and any other area affected by this weather and these conditions.

If possible, RCMP ask you to avoid travel in the area or seek alternate routes.

Meantime, other roads and highways around the province have since been noted as covered in ice and/or snow. Mounties say road conditions are poor across the province. The most recent reports are Highways 44 and 37 in the Westlock, Alta., area.

Elsewhere, Airdrie Rural RCMP, Fire, and EMS are on scene for a series of collisions on Hwy 2. The first being northbound at 40 Avenue and a second being at Hwy 2 and Hwy 72. The northbound lanes of Hwy 2 at Hwy 72 were closed.

Police note, however, these investigations are in their early stages and say there will be a further release once the highway is re-opened. Airdrie RCMP are recommending motorists avoid travel in this area.

As of 8:35 a.m., RCMP say road conditions in the Airdrie area continue to deteriorate with Airdrie Fire and EMS attending multiple collisions. Hwy 2 northbound has been reduced to one lane at 40 Avenue.

RCMP say Hwy 2 north of Airdrie is open although travel is not recommended.
