Red Deerians can personalize their Food and Beverage Expo experience this Saturday with new features available on the digital app.

On April 6 from 4-10 p.m., over 120 vendors will be spread out over Westerner Park’s Exhibition Hall and Stockmens Pavilion, serving samples for hundreds of wines, beers, cocktails, and food from local restaurants and suppliers.

Chris Meilleur, Chief Executive Officer for Meibel Consulting and the Expo, said he expects to see a full house, with traffic of up to 7,000 people throughout the evening.

The sixth Expo in Red Deer, Meilleur is excited to see new breweries, distilleries, and vineyards at the event, and to see the new products from those returning.

“The show is always new; that’s the best thing about the Alberta Food and Beverage Expo because even if you have repeat vendors, they’re always showcasing their latest and greatest, new things on the menus and, of course, all the different beverage brands. They’ve got tons of new brands that they’re pushing out for spring,” he said.

New this year, the Expo is cranking up their digital app presence with some additional features, allowing participants to note their allergies or food preferences to create a targeted booths’ list so they can find their favourite items faster.

The app can be found on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

“I’m a foodie, so I love to explore to see what new restaurants we have in the show and the existing restaurants, what new things they’re working with because they’re always using us as a place to demo and try out some new things. If I get an opportunity to sample on the beverage side, I’m a whisky fan, so I’m always hunting down those whiskey vendors,” said Meilleur.

Since their first year in Red Deer, the Expo will once again be partnering with the Red Deer Firefighters Children’s Charity, hoping to reach around $10,000 in donations.

“The guys there are absolutely amazing to work with, so we just keep bringing them back every year because they support so many local charities here in town,” he said.

Over the past 10 years hosting Expos across the province, Meilleur said the event has raised nearly $800,000 for local charities.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.
