4 Seasons Grant

Funding opportunity for community-led downtown activations returns to Red Deer

Apr 2, 2024 | 4:38 PM

Officials with the City of Red Deer say the Downtown Activation 4 Seasons Grant is returning to support community-led initiatives supported by local not-for-profit organizations.

According to the City, downtown is the vibrant heart of Red Deer, animated by spaces to gather, connect, entertain and reflect, all year long. Intended to enliven underutilized spaces through short-term activations, officials say this grant provides financial support for community-led projects that increase downtown attraction.

“We all have a role to play in contributing to the vitality we want to experience when visiting the downtown,” said Bobby-Jo Stannard, Community Development Superintendent. “This funding opportunity empowers citizens to take action alongside The City to support the goals of the Downtown Activation Playbook, which defines what a vibrant downtown looks like for Red Deer and provides guidance for both The City and community towards its realization.”

The City says initiatives that leverage partnerships and take place outside the busy summer event season will be prioritized and applications will be evaluated based on the following eligibility criteria:

  • Contributes to four season activation strategy with focus on spring, fall and winter activations
  • Enlivens the streets with short-term attractions
  • Leverages underutilized downtown spaces
  • Increases downtown attractions for residents and visitors

Applications may be submitted online via SmartSimple (reddeer.smartsimple.ca). The application deadline is Wednesday, May 1 at 4 p.m. MST.

More information on this and other funding opportunities through The City of Red Deer is available on The City’s website, www.reddeer.ca/grants.
