Underground utility construction begins in Grandview

Mar 28, 2024 | 11:41 AM

Media release –– A significant underground utility construction project will begin next week in the Grandview neighbourhood to provide essential upgrades to water, sanitary and storm mains.

The upgrades will require a number of road closures along 43A Avenue, 43 Avenue, Ross (50 Street and 47 Street over the next several months. To lessen impacts to nearby residents and motorists, the project will be completed in four phases, weather permitting:

  • Phase 1: 43A Avenue and 47 Street – April 1 to July 30
  • Phase 2: Ross Street Intersection (North) – June 15 to July 30
  • Phase 3: Ross Street Intersection (South) – July 15 to September 15
  • Phase 4: 43 Avenue – Aug 15 to October 30

Beginning April 1, 43 Avenue will be closed from Ross Street to south of 47 Street. Detour signage will be in place and motorists are asked to please follow signage. Additionally, 43A Ave and 47 Street cul-de-sac will also be closed as part of the first phase of construction work. Residents along these roadways have been notified with greater detail of temporary access plans.

“This large undertaking is necessary as the utility infrastructure in this area has reached its service limit,” said Jim Jorgensen, Utilities Manager for the City of Red Deer. “In order to continue providing healthy, reliable, and safe services to local residences, it is critical that these upgrades are completed.”

When Phase 2 and 3 upgrades begin this summer, extended lane closures along Ross Street and 43 Avenue will also be required.

Construction hours are slated from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday, with the possibility of Sunday and evening work as dictated by weather and schedule requirements. Noise bylaws will be adhered to during these hours to minimize disruptions to residents.
