RCMP locate suspected vehicle and driver in fatal hit and run near Innisfail

Innisfail RCMP advise that they have located the truck and suspected driver in this incident.

Innisfail RCMP advise that the investigation is ongoing and additional updates will be provided when available.  RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance.

UPDATE: March 28, 2024, 1:30 p.m.

RCMP attended the scene of a fatal hit and run on Highway 590 near Highway 805 Thursday morning. Based on initial evidence obtained at the scene, RCMP believe that the vehicle involved is a 2019 or older Chevrolet or GMC 2500 or 3500 HD pick up truck. The vehicle will have damage to its passenger side.

RCMP investigators are looking to speak to any drivers that were in that area at that time that may have information. Specifically investigators are interested in any dash camera footage that may exist from drivers that were in the area at that time.

UPDATE: March 28, 2024, 12:05 p.m.

Local Mounties are investigating a fatal hit and run east of Innisfail early this morning.

On March 28, 2024, at 8:14 a.m.,  Innisfail RCMP were dispatched to the collision on Highway 590, 22kms east of Innisfail near the intersection of Highway 590 and Highway 805.

According to police, EMS and RCMP located a deceased male in the south ditch of Highway 590. Investigation has revealed that the male victim was dressed in black clothing and was walking westbound on Highway 590. Mounties say he was last seen alive walking on the highway at approximately 6:30 a.m.. Between 6:30 a.m. and 8:09 a.m., police say he was struck by a vehicle that was believed to be travelling east on Highway 590.

RCMP say they remain on scene and the investigation continues. Police, however, are not releasing the identity of the victim at this time.

RCMP investigators are looking to speak to any drivers that were in that area at that time though that may have information. Specifically, investigators are interested in any dash camera footage that may exist from drivers that were in the area at that time.

Mounties say the suspect vehicle is currently unknown but would have damage; specifically the passenger mirror would be missing.

RCMP are currently on scene responding to a serious motor vehicle collision east of Innisfail on Highway 590 west of Range Road 265.

RCMP advise that traffic will be redirected while emergency workers respond, and police investigate.

Mounties say additional updates are anticipated.

According to 511 Alberta, Highway 590 is closed in both directions, so drivers are advised to use an alternate route.

Officials note, the collision along Highway 590 is west of Range Road 265 approx. 8km east of Innisfail,

Meantime, police are also responding to a motor vehicle collision on Hwy 2 in both directions near 27312 Township Road 394 near Blackfalds.

RCMP advise of multiple MVC’s on the QEII between Blackfalds and Ponoka due to icy road conditions.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution in the area.
