Wolf Creek Public Schools’ budget deliberation delayed

Wolf Creek Public Schools’ Board of Trustees convened to initiate discussions on the budget for the 2024/25 school year. The board reviewed budget expectations and preliminary accounting, but say they were unable to proceed with deliberation on financial allocations for the upcoming school year without the funding manual from Alberta Education.

The funding manual, they say, is a crucial document that outlines specific funding details and amounts, and is essential to make informed decisions regarding resource distribution across Wolf Creek Public Schools and to ensure that the educational and operational needs of the students and staff are met adequately.

The board set its budget priorities in February and is ready to deliberate through that lens.

To do so effectively, the board says they rely on detailed information from Alberta Education on funding and grant allocations. WCPS say they’ve received word that although delayed this year, the funding manual is expected soon. 

Wolf Creek Public Schools officials say they remains hopeful that the funding manual will be released by Alberta Education shortly. Upon receipt, the board says it will promptly resume budget talks to finalize the financial plan for the 2024/25 school year. The board says is currently looking to dates in early April to resume budget talks, with the hope that the funding manual will be provided by Alberta Education by the end of March.
