Central Alberta tattoo artist offers services to Wings of Hope

A central Alberta tattoo artist is offering her services to an organization that provides assistance to those battling breast cancer.

Lanna Richmond, a Red Deer tattoo artist says she reached out to Calgary-based Wings of Hope.

“They help people with the financial side [for] people who are going through breast cancer. I had taken the training to do the areolas and scar work [tattoos]. So I offer my services free of charge to Wings of Hope if they had anybody who needed those services.”

Richmond says the work they do can restore normalcy.

“An areola tattoo is a full-on tattoo. It is meant to be 3D [and] lifelike. [For] a lot of people who have gone through breast cancer, they’ve had to have reconstruction where they were not able to save their areola or nipple area. They end up with a blank slate. It helps to bring back that sense of normalcy.”

Richmond hopes more people in need can find out about the program.

“Anything from self-harm scars, to people who have had skin cancer [or] breast cancer. A lot of times people just don’t know that this service is even available.”
