Red Deer’s municipal byelection nomination day is on Monday; eight candidates so far

Interested locals have until Monday to enter the race in Red Deer’s first city council by-election.

Potential candidates to fill a vacant councillor seat have just under a week left to get their nomination package submitted, with the deadline on March 25 at noon.

Eight candidates are currently registered and include:

  • Ashley MacDonald
  • Calvin Yzerman
  • Chad Krahn
  • Hans Huizing
  • Jaelene Tweedle
  • Linda Cullen-Saik
  • Mark Collings
  • S.H. (Buck) Buchanan

Their descriptions and priorities can be found on the city’s elections website.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen, a resident of Red Deer for at least six consecutive months preceding nomination day, and have a completed nomination package which includes a nomination paper, candidate acceptance form, and candidate financial information form. Papers must be filed to the Returning Officer.

A final list of candidate names will be posted on March 27.
